Zane Thomas is the owner and creator behind Black Moon Print. Spending his early life bouncing around other Texas cities, he finally came to find San Antonio home. With a background in screen printing and graphic design, he specializes in a Neo-Americana and mid century mashup style, lovingly dubbed “Alternative Americana”.

An majority of the inspiration behind his work is directly tied to a truck stop bathroom novelty machine he came across as a kid. Enraptured by the naughty possibilities, he surveyed nervously, plunged 75 cents into the machine, and turned the plunger. What came out was promised to be “Spanish Fly”. Unsure of what it was but knowing the lightly clad woman on the package signaled taboo, he stuffed it in deep in his pocket. For the three hour ride home his secret burned a hole through his jeans. As soon he arrived home, he ran up the stairs, and behind the closed door of his bedroom, unwrapped his treasure. Careful to not drop any of this precious cargo, the package was opened slowly. As he flipped open what appeared to be a printed image of a pants zipper, a small cartoonish character appeared. It was a fly, A fly wearing an sombrero to be exact. He was holding his penis, and there was a small speech bubble above that said “Oh lay”. Hours of anticipation for this pervert bug. Disappointment quickly melted to pure bliss. It was hilarious.

Since the great bamboozle he has archived, designed, and created novelties and art that invokes the same ghoulish grin he felt when he tried to sneak a naughty toy from a truck stop. As well as combine an unapologetic obsession with vintage 40’s and 50’s advertisements, film, and pop culture. Through his work he hopes to make things for those that revel in the same cherished aesthetic, and at the end of the day get the joke.
